Designed for explorers seeking total immersion in the Amazon, this program allows you to delve into the most remote areas of the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Regional Conservation Area, with the option of experiencing camping and survival skills deep in the jungle. It is ideal for long-distance trekking enthusiasts, nature photographers, birdwatchers, and travelers who wish to discover Amazonian biodiversity with the time and depth it deserves.
Day 1 – Arrival & Into the Amazon
Reception at the airport or your hotel in Iquitos. Transfer by car to the port, followed by a
scenic 3.5-hour boat journey along the Amazon and Tahuayo Rivers to Amazon Tahuayo
Paradise Lodge.
After lunch and a short rest, begin your first jungle hike in search of monkeys, sloths, giant
water lilies, and other rainforest wildlife.
Dinner: 7:00 PM
Night Excursion:
Boat ride to search for caimans, frogs, snakes, and other nocturnal wildlife.
Day 2 – Poison Dart Frog Expedition
Explore the famous Ceiba Trail, home to several species of poison dart frogs, including
Ranitomeya uakarii, Atelopus, Ranitomeya ventrimaculata, and many others.
Throughout the day, discover colorful birds, insects, and medicinal plants while learning
about the rainforest ecosystem.
Night Activity:
Boat excursion or jungle walk to observe Amazon wildlife after dark.
Day 3 – Tangarana River Expedition
Travel deep into the remote Tangarana River, one of the least-visited tributaries of the
Tahuayo basin.
Explore narrow waterways by canoe while searching for monkeys, giant river otters,
macaws, toucans, kingfishers, black caimans, and other wildlife rarely seen on traditional
tours.
Spend the day exploring untouched rainforest and hidden lagoons before returning to
camp or the lodge.
Day 4 – Amazon Survival & Overnight Camping
Leave the lodge behind and venture into the rainforest for an authentic survival
experience.
Learn practical jungle survival techniques, including:
Finding safe drinking water
Fire making using natural materials
Shelter construction
Wildlife tracking
Identifying edible fruits and medicinal plants
Traditional navigation in the rainforest
In the afternoon, hike deeper into the jungle to a remote campsite.
Enjoy dinner around the campfire (weather permitting) before spending an unforgettable
night camping in the Amazon rainforest.
Day 5 – Primitive Raft Building & Lake Exploration
After breakfast at camp, work together with your guide to build a traditional raft using
natural materials, just as local people have done for generations.
Continue exploring remote lakes and flooded forests by canoe or raft while searching for
giant river otters, monkeys, sloths, colorful birds, and aquatic wildlife.
Return to the lodge in the afternoon.
Optional Night Excursion:
Canoeing under the stars or wildlife spotting by boat.
Day 6 – Amazon Culture & Traditional Living
Spend the day with a local Amazonian community and discover their traditional way of
life.
Activities may include:
Visiting family farms and learning about sustainable agriculture.
Identifying medicinal and useful rainforest plants.
Traditional weaving workshop using natural fibers.
Preparing local Amazonian foods.
Learning about customs, traditions, and daily life in the rainforest.
This cultural exchange offers a deeper understanding of the people who have lived in
harmony with the Amazon for generations.
Day 7 – Sunrise & Departure
Optional Sunrise Excursion (5:30 AM)
Experience the spectacular Amazon sunrise while enjoying birdwatching along the
Tahuayo River.
After breakfast, enjoy one final jungle walk through the Igapó flooded forest, searching for
howler monkeys, pygmy marmosets, owl monkeys, the Hoatzin, and other iconic Amazon
wildlife.
Lunch: 1:00 PM
After lunch, depart by boat and vehicle for your transfer to the airport or your hotel in
Iquitos.
